Got Acne? Brace for Breakouts
- Posted on: Oct 15 2016
Acne can make you embarrassed and self-conscious. When you interact with others, you may feel like your acne is all they see. If you’re dealing with acne, there are ways to diminish breakouts and improve the appearance your skin. Here’s how:
Use the Right Skin Products
Oil-based products can clog your pores and trigger acne flare-ups. Steer clear of these and look for skin products that contain benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, lactic acid and salicylic acid. All of these help dry out your skin and impede bacterial growth. Use small doses to start, just to make sure your skin doesn’t react negatively, and then increase the amount over time.
Wash at Least Once a Day
Even if you don’t wear makeup, you need to wash your face daily to get rid of oil, dirt and dead skin cells that can trigger acne. Choose a mild cleanser and wash using warm water. Use gentle strokes and wash in a circular motion instead of scrubbing your face, which can irritate your skin even more.
Touching your face is a no-no for good skincare. When you touch your face, bacteria spreads and can irritate your skin. And by all means, never pop your pimples with your hands or you run the risk of worsening your acne and creating scars.
Watch What You Eat
It isn’t just greasy junk food that’s to blame for acne. Chocolate, spicy foods and cheese are also culprits for breakouts. Incorporating more fruits, vegetables and whole grains can contribute positively to your skin’s appearance. And drink plenty water to keep your skin hydrates and rid your body of acne-causing toxins.
Talk to your doctor about an acne medication that may be best for you to help reduce and eliminate acne.
