Facial Fillers FAQs

Man getting face filler injections

Dermal fillers are ideal for patients looking to add volume to the skin on their face while correcting fine lines and wrinkles. The result – a refreshed and younger looking you. If you’re considering a dermal filler to target your skin imperfections, take a look at these frequently asked questions about this effective treatment.

What is filler?
Filler is a substance that usually contains hyaluronic acid which is injected in the skin to plump up the skin to reduce deep wrinkles and restore volume where it’s needed. Unlike Botox, which takes a few days for results to appear, fillers provide results immediately.

What part of the face is treated?
Injectable filler can be used on several areas of the face including laugh lines, lips, cheeks and even the temples.

Who is a good candidate?
The best candidates for facial filler are those with a stubborn area that could benefit from the procedure. You must also be a non-smoker, in overall good health, with realistic expectations of the results. This includes the knowledge that more than one treatment may be necessary.

Do I need to take time off?
After your procedure, you will experience some swelling and mild bruising, but it won’t be significant enough to warrant downtime. Just be sure to follow your after-card instructions completely for safe a speedy recovery.

How long do results last?
The length of time your results will last depends on the area you inject and formula that is used. Typically, your filler will last from six months to as long as two years. Lips tend to need more frequent treatments, while an injection to your lower eyelids can last much longer. That’s because talking and eating warrants more motion to the lip area, while the lower eyelid is a more static area that sits on top of bone.
