Make Acne Scars a Thing of the Past

It’s no fun to have a pimple, but what’s worse is that once it’s gone, a scar remains. This isn’t always the case, of course, but when it is, you may think that scar is there for life. Not necessarily. Effective treatments for acne scars are available, and they vary with the level of scarring.  Here are some common, proven procedures used to treat acne scars for a smoother looking face.

1. Dermabrasion. A highly popular technique for removing surface scars or diminishing the look of deeper scars, dermabrasion works by refinishing the skin’s top layers.  It can be done on small areas or your entire face, and it’s sometimes performed in conjunction with a chemical peel or a facelift.

2. Facial fillers. Dermal fillers are an ideal method of treating and eliminating certain types of acne scars. It works by using a tiny needle to inject a hyaluronic-based filler such as Juvederm or Restylane into the scarred area to create smoother looking skin.

3. Laser treatment. This procedure uses laser technology to remove the skin’s surface layer, allowing the underlying tissue to grow and promoting the production of new skin cells.

4. Punch excision surgery. For patients with deep, indented acne scars, punch excision is an effective treatment. With this procedure, your doctor uses a tool matched to the size of the scar to remove it, followed by using a skin graft to fill the wound.

Not everyone will be able to prevent acne scars from developing, but the above treatments make it possible to reduce the appearance of acne scars, allowing for a smoother skin texture and improved overall appearance.
