Here at Westerville Dermatology, we are very familiar with using dermal fillers to address a variety of cosmetic concerns. The products that are popular today have been widely used for about 15 years now. We have to remind ourselves that, while dermal fillers have been around for quite some time, there are always first-time fillers, people who are new to this cosmetic treatment. We understand that it can be intimidating to get dermal fillers for the first time. Here, we walk you through what to expect at your first visit.
Before Dermal Filler Treatment, We Talk!
Dermal filler treatment is convenient and pretty quick, too. However, we still take the time to get to know our patients before jumping right into administering injections into any part of their face. A consultation is essential to achieving an outcome that you will love. So, we begin by discussing the concerns that you have and what you would like to see instead. Dermal fillers aren’t the right solution to every line and crease. If you want to reduce permanent frown lines, we would suggest Botox for that problem. If you want to add volume to your lips, we will find the right dermal filler for that job. After our consultation, you will know what product we recommend, how many units of filler it will take to achieve your goals, and how much your treatment will cost. Then, if you are ready, we can move right on to getting those results you want!
Dermal Filler Treatment
Dermal fillers are administered with a very fine needle. First-time patients are often concerned that getting injections in their cheeks, forehead, or other areas will hurt. Dermal filler treatment is actually pretty painless. Fillers contain an anesthetic in their formulas that begin to desensitize nerve-endings immediately upon the first injection. From there, the rest of the series of small injections are barely a pinch. The process is usually done within 15 to 20 minutes. And what’s even better than this quick process is that you also get quick results!
After Dermal Filler Treatment
Once all injections have been administered, you will see the results that we’ve achieved. The treatment area may look slightly swollen and red. This usually passes within an hour or two. Patients normally return to their routine activities right away. There is no need for downtime, which is one more reason for the popularity of dermal fillers.
