Microdermabrasion

What is the Microdermabrasion Procedure?

Microdermabrasions are a safe, minimally invasive, no downtime procedure that takes about 30 minutes to perform. The procedure uses a gentle stream of tiny particles that exfoliate the outer layer of your skin, improving your skin’s texture, tone, and appearance.

Microdermabrasion is safe for all skin types. We do not recommend microdermabrasion if you have rosacea. Any active infection such as cold sores, open acne lesions, or picked skin should be treated and cleared before a microdermabrasion is performed. Some of the most common side effects of microdermabrasion include some mild redness that lasts 1-2 hours after the procedure. Most patients can achieve noticeable results after 4 – 8 treatment sessions spaced 1-2 weeks apart.

Microdermabrasion FAQs

Microdermabrasions offer effective results that are visible immediately.

  • Reduced or eliminated appearance of acne scars
  • Reduced appearance of hyperpigmentation
  • Fewer age spots
  • Reduces white stretch marks by stimulating collagen production
  • Improvement in skin texture and pore size
  • Minimization of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Helps improve uneven skin tone
  • Reduce the depth of deep scars
  • Improves overall skin color and radiance

You may resume your skincare product regimen that evening. We recommend avoiding direct sun exposure after having microdermabrasion work and apply sunblock to minimize potential post-inflammatory pigmentation, which is rare.

Microdermabrasion is a very safe procedure for all skin types when administered by a board-certified provider. It avoids damaging the skin and leaves no risk of scars or infection. As with any typical minimally invasive procedure, some tenderness, swelling, redness, and minor bruising might occur, but it typically fades within a few hours.

Microdermabrasion sessions don’t offer permanent results, but they can last several months with a healthy skin care routine. Our board-certified providers work with patients to help the build a proper skin care regimen and determine how many treatments will be needed regularly to maintain results.

Some patients report minor discomfort, but as a minimally invasive procedure, microdermabrasion uses fine crystals that are too small to cause pain. We do advise patients to avoid sun exposure within the first few hours after their treatments. This is especially important after treating facial skin.

Here at Aderma Medical Spa, we offer two different types of microdermabrasions, and a microdermabrasion upgrade – the Ultra Microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion

This resurfacing treatment uses tiny aluminum oxide crystals. You’ll get a gentle and safe removal of the outer, dead layers of the skin. Minimizes fine lines, temporarily reduces pore size and evens skin tone. Helps treat scarring, sun damage, and acne.
